The hamlet of Cirella is rich of history and finds testifying the importance of this flourishing Magna-Greek city named Cerillae.
It became an important centre thanks to the commercial exports between Rome and Magna-Greece. Here rose temples and roman villas whose vestiges are still visible. The city was destroyed and reconstructed a lot of times during the centuries, and preserves the ruins of the ancient centre and a roman pantheon of the 1st century.
It’s possible to enjoy a wonderful landscape, with precious bluffs and ample beaches, stretched out in small pleasant bays. The ruins of the ancient city are visible from the whole coast. There are interesting artistic and architectural proofs. Cirella is today a beautiful terrace on the sea, at the top of the creek. It’s one the most equipped tourist centre of the “Cedar Coast”, point of reference of important artistic and cultural manifestations.
At the centre of the laughing marine suburb there is the Church of “Santa Maria dei Fiori”, with the rests of works of the Ancient city. The mid-August party proposes the “sagra del melone” (melon feast). The evening of 14, on the beach there are great bellyfuls of this red fruit, under the light of bonfire.
